How to Stage an Effective Safety Stand-Down

As we’ve mentioned, the sixth annual National Safety Stand-Down Week will is May 6-10. Participation in this event is highly encouraged as it raises fall hazard awareness across the country in an effort to stop fatalities and injuries. So at Safety Solutions and Supply, we have put together some ways you can do an effective stand-down.
According to OSHA, some ways you can participate in the stand-down is to plan a toolbox talk or additional safety activities, take a break to talk about how to prevent falls, and provide training for all workers. If your employees are not exposed to fall hazards, you can use this time to talk about other job hazards they face and ways to follow the company’s safety policies and goals. It might also be helpful to leave time for your employees to talk about falls or other job hazards they’ve seen.
Companies can also include activities such as a discussion of job hazards, an assessment of potential risks, and the development of safety policies and goals.
Participation is not limited to the construction industry. In past years, participants have included commercial construction companies of all sizes, residential construction contractors, sub- and independent contractors, highway construction companies, general industry employers, the U.S. Military, other government participants, unions, employer trade associations, institutes, employee interest organizations, and safety equipment manufacturers.
You can hold a stand-down at your own company, join a regional event that is open to the public, or even collaborate with other companies in your area and create a joint event.
Once you’ve completed your stand-down event, you will have the opportunity to provide feedback and download a Certificate of Participation.
At Safety Solutions & Supply, we are proud to offer various training services. If you’re looking for safety training for your employees or have any additional questions, call us today at 866-537-2262.
