Machine Guarding Training
Safety Solutions and Supply’s Machine Guarding Training program is a 4-hour class that adheres to OSHA 29 CFR 1910.212 standards and other applicable OSHA requirements. This program educates employees on the purpose and importance of machine guards and design considerations in inspecting and maintaining guards.
Every year workers across the United States suffer from injuries sustained from unguarded or inadequately guarded moving machine parts. The unguarded use of machines can lead to injuries such as amputations, crushed hands and arms, lacerations, abrasions, and blindness. It is estimated that approximately 18,000 injuries and over 800 deaths occur each year among workers who operate and maintain machinery. This program, if managed properly, will eliminate the risks associated with improper machine guarding.
OSHA Machine Guard Training Requirements?
OSHA 1910.212 states the purpose of machine guarding is to protect the machine operator and other employees in the work area from hazards created by ingoing nip points, rotating parts, flying chips, and sparks. Guards must not create potential risks and must be attached to the machine where possible. Machines that expose an employee to injury must be guarded. The guarding device must:
- Conform with any appropriate standards.
- The machine construction should prevent the operator from having any part of their body in the danger zone during the operating cycle.
