March 18-24 is National Poison Prevention Week. What can you do to participate? How can you bring awareness? We here at Safety Solutions & Supply want to be a part by bringing awareness to you.
National Poison Prevention Week is dedicated to bringing awareness of poison prevention nationwide during the third full week of March every year. During this time, you will be given opportunities to highlight the dangers of poisonings for people of all ages and promote community involvement in poisoning prevention.
This all started in 1961 when Congress established National Poison Prevention Week to raise awareness, reduce unintentional poisonings, and promote prevention. Now poison centers across the country conduct activities to raise awareness to the dangers of poisoning. Each year, the National Poison Prevention Week Council holds a children’s artwork contest to raise awareness about poison.
There are many ways to participate. One of those ways is to contact your local poison center to find out what activities they may already be planning in your area and how you can help. You can contact them at 1-800-222-1222.
Another way to help is to plan and promote different events and activities in the area or plan your own event to bring awareness. Finally, you could also ask different organization to help bring awareness to the cause. When you combine your resources with different organizations, it makes for a bigger audience and more people reached.
If you decide to plan your own activity try different things like posting facts about poisoning and your website and link it to different poison centers in the area so they can get additional information. You can also distribute poison facts to businesses and schools in the area to help bring awareness to the people in their community. These are simple activities, and they don’t require a lot of time or funding. This makes them perfect for anyone who wants to bring awareness but also has a busy schedule.
