Are You Ready for National Safety Stand-Down Week, May 6–10?

Did you know that fatalities caused by falls from elevation continue to be a leading cause of death for construction employees? According to BLS data, 366 of the 971 construction deaths recorded in 2017 were from elevation falls, that’s one-third of all construction fatalities. At Safety Solutions & Supply, we want you and your employees to be safe, so we’ve put together some information to bring awareness to a special event happened in your area.
The Department of Labor’s Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) is holding the sixth annual National Safety Stand-Down week on May 6-10, 2019. This event is intended to raise awareness of fall hazards across the country in an effort to stop injuries and fatalities. This is a voluntary event where employees and employers from around the world will stop to discuss specific safety concerns surrounding falls from elevation.
Employers in the construction industry should use this time to plan ahead to get the job done safely, provide the right equipment, and train everyone to use the equipment safely.
By doing this they will raise awareness of the serious danger and risk of falls when they do not follow the proper safety procedures.
Staying safe should be a top priority for everyone. If it is, then the employer’s responsibility should be to do everything in their power to prevent falls. The National Safety Stand-Down week is a great time to do just that, and to remind everyone to be dedicated to safety in the workplace.
If you plan to participate in Stand-Down week or know of any Fall Prevention Programs open to the public, share with your fellow workers to bring awareness to everyone involved.
