National Farm Safety and Health Week

Did you know that the third week of September is National Farm Safety and Health Week? The National Safety Council has been promoting this week annually since 1944 when President Franklin D. Roosevelt signed the first document.

This year, National Farm Safety and Health Week will be September 15-21, and it will be themed “Shift Farm Safety into High Gear.” The National Education Center for Agricultural Safety, UMASH, and the US Agricultural Centers funded by the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health are spotlighting agricultural health and safety with a variety of resources for farmworkers, their families, and everyone involved in agriculture

America’s farmers work in very hazardous situations sometimes in order to provide us with a sufficient food supply. Because of this, Agriculture has been known to be one of the most dangerous occupations in North America.

We want to keep our farmers safe and are raising awareness of different ways to do just that this September during National Farm Safety and Health Week.

If you would like to participate, you can register online at www.agrisafe.org/nfshw-2019. Once you register, you’ll be able to be part of webinars such as Tractor Safety and Rural Roadway Safety, Safety and Health for youth in Agriculture, and Confined Spaces in Agriculture. These daily webinars will help inform everyone on some important agricultural health and safety topics.
