Happy Holidays Are Safe Holidays: Tips From the National Safety Council

During the holiday season, you and your loved ones should take extra precautions to make sure everyone is safe. At Safety Solutions & Supply, we have some advice to help keep you safe.

Traveling
Fatalities from car accidents spike tremendously during the holidays, so be sure to take extra precautions when traveling this holiday season. Always get a good night’s sleep before driving, make sure you leave time for traffic delays, check that everyone is buckled properly, put away your cell phone, and designate a sober driver if you plan to drink at your holiday parties.

Decorating
When decorating, be sure to keep all poisonous plants away from children and animals, place your Christmas tree 3 or more feet away from any heat source, put breakable ornaments out of reach of children, keep all plugs away from water sources and puddles, and turn off all the holiday lights when you go to bed or leave the house.

Relaxing
While you’re busy relaxing this holiday season, be sure to place candles where they won’t get knocked over, keep a screen on your fireplace when it is burning, and extinguish any candles or flames when you go to sleep.

Eating
Food poisoning is no joke so be sure to wash your hands frequently when cooking, use a food thermometer to make sure meat is cooked to a safe temperature, refrigerate any leftovers within two hours, and throw out any leftovers after four days.

Giving gifts
Tis the season to give, but please remember that toys are age-rated for safety, so please be cautious about toys that have button batteries or magnets and give a helmet with any riding toys.
