Plan, Provide, Train: 3 Ways to Prevent Falls

Did you know that according to BLS data in 2018, there were 320 fatal falls during construction fatalities? With the proper training, planning and provided equipment these deaths are preventable. That’s why we here at Safety Solutions and Supply want to share with you OSHA’s 3 step plan to prevent falls from ladders, scaffolds and roofs.

  • PLAN
Planning your safety measures ahead of time will help ensure that the job will be done safely. Be sure to evaluate how the job will be done, the tasks necessary to complete it, and the equipment that will be needed for each task.
  • PROVIDE
As an employer, you should always make sure to provide your employees the proper safety equipment. This equipment is not limited to but includes the proper ladders, scaffolds, and PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) such as fall arrest systems and harnesses.
  • TRAIN
Every employee should be properly trained before they begin a job and the training should be reinforced periodically as we humans tend to forget things or take shortcuts. Training should include proper set-up and use of equipment as well as any hazards they may experience on the job.

By following these 3 steps OSHA has put in place, you will be well on your way to a safer workplace by limiting and helping to prevent unnecessary death due to falls.
